He had been ensnared. Utterly, and completely, he was hers - and he knew it. William sat and sipped slowly at his ale mug, contemplating how easily he had fallen for the starry-eyed barmaid. Her auburn locks curled past her shoulders, and fell perfectly to frame her lovely face. When she smiled, it was honest and joyful, usually causing all those around her to share in the grin. She had a way she looked at people, her eyes dancing in the low lantern light of the tavern, the perfect combination of innocent joy with a hint of danger. And the dress...Gods above save me from the dress, he thought. It was perfectly tailored to show off her form, but just reserved enough to leave the best parts up to your imagination. It was tantalizing. Long tails that flowed perfectly with her hips as she shimmied her way through the packed hall, carrying food and drink. But all of that could have been for nothing, for what truly snared William was her heart. There are some barmaids who put on an act, hoping to milk their customers for greater tips. Some barmaids have a very tight-knit social circle, but if you didn't run with that crowd, you might as well have been invisible. But not Clara. She was different from any William had ever met. She genuinely cared about people. Clara took the time to get invested, and actually push beyond surface conversations to make sure everyone was alright. Friends or strangers, it mattered not - she was easily one of the most kind hearted people William had encountered on his trek across Europe. His thoughts were interrupted by a booming laugh, and the sound of shuffling tables. William's eyes snapped up, to see Clara in the arms of a bear of a man. Large pantaloons, and many tattoos marked the man as a sailor. "C'mere Darlin'. I've been away at sea for too long and could use some good company!" His paw-like hands pulled her in close, trying to seat her on his lap, while the man's friends hooted and hollered at the girl. Many onlookers were white knuckling their glasses, all of them fond of the girl, but the size of the man in question caused many to hesitate. Before he could stop himself William was out of his chair and half way across the room. He drew in a breath, mustering all the courage he could find and yelled out as loud as he could. "HEY!" It came out a little more slurred than he had intended, forgetting the two to three ales he had already drank, but it got the point across. The behemoth sailor's eyes pried away from Clara's chest long enough to refocus on the scrawny boy standing in front of him. Looking him up and down, it only made the sailor laugh even louder. William took another step forward and was about to do something incredibly stupid, when he caught Clara's eye. She wasn't scared, or hurt ... she looked annoyed. A small shake of her head was enough to stop William dead in his tracks. Clara turned in the man's arms to face him in the eye, and in only a tone Clara could use, asked to be put down. "I have a bar to manage, sweetie. Why don't you let me get back to work, and then we can talk after my shift is over, okay?" Her voice was soft and delicate, like the caress of morning's first light. It took a few seconds for her words to pierce the veiled mist that only heavy levels of intoxication can cause, but the large smile plastered on his face showed he got the message. "Alright toots, bring m'lads another round then!" But as Clara turned, seemingly out of danger, he leaned in and smacked her right across her left butt cheek. She let out a small gasp of surprise, and it was enough to cause William to snap. Crossing the last few steps, he closed the distance between him and the table, and got right up in the man's face.
"Listen, you half-brained, dimwitted oaf! you don't get to come into this bar, and do that to ANYONE. If you ever think of laying a hand on her ag - " William didn't get a chance to finish his sentence. Next thing he knew he was lying on the ground, staring up at the ceiling. There was an uproar of laughter from the table of sailors. His face was flushed and hot but he couldn't tell if it was from embarrassment, or from the punch. There was some yelling, and the sound of many tables and chairs being scrapped across the floor. William looked over, to see the entire bar on their feet. Something damp touched his face. With a start, he looked up to see Clara pressing a cloth to his forehead. "You fool." She whispered. The words would have stung him deeply until he saw the smile she was wearing, and the twinkle in her eyes. Clara was proud. All pain and embarrassment evaporated in an instant, the scene around them stood still in time, as he took but a moment to remember that face, to etch it to his brain for eternity. The young barmaid helped him to his feet, keeping one arm under him to help steady himself. William was shocked at how strong and steady her arm felt. Must be from carrying all those big trays of drinks. The crowd had finally managed to bully the sailors from the tavern, and things slowly returned to normal. "Oh shoot." Clara said under her breath. "Those buffoons forgot to pay their tab. " She eased him into a chair, and made for the door. William immediately tried to get to his feet, but almost blacked out again from the effort. Once more her arms were tight around him. "Stay here Will. You can barely stand, and I can take care of myself." Clara winked, and took off out the door after the men. "Be careful..." William whispered to himself.
"Excuse me! Excuse me, Sir!" The small voice chirped. Half the sailors didn't even notice, but the large man from before certainly did. "Well, well, well... if it isn't my little flower." He turned and hiccupped loudly. "Come back for seconds, did'ja?" His voice was slurring badly, his breath hot on her face. "You forgot to pay me, kind sir." Clara's eyes looked up at the man's, leaning forward just slightly to give him a better view down her top. His breath grew heavy. "Did I now? Well...I'm sure we could, figure something out." He leered greedily down at the tiny maid. "Head back to the ship boys, i'll meetcha there in a bit." The pack of drunken sailors had no problem following that order, as they stumbled off into the night, singing and laughing loudly. Clara waited patiently until their presence faded from sight, then regarded the big sailor. "What exactly did you have in mind?" She asked innocently, placing her dainty hand on the man's massive arm. "I'm sure we can figure something out, he he he." He repeated. The man drunkenly leered at her, and placed one gigantic hand on her back, guiding her into a nearby alleyway. There was no protest, as he leaned in and kissed her neck. His meaty fingers drunkenly flailed at dress strings. "The lads are never gonna believe this. Its a good night for Salty Pete." He managed to mumble through his failed attempts at foreplay. "Oh, it is a good night indeed." Clara whispered into his ear, her voice tone completely changed. Gone was the shy coo of an innocent maid, replaced by the steel-hardened coyness of a snake playing with her food. Pete looked up, and immediately recoiled. Her once bright-blue eyes were gone, two fiery red orbs burning in their place. Two long protruding fangs extended past her lips, her mouth opened just slightly, as her tongue ran across them. Dress half off, she pushed up closer to the Sailor, running her hands through his dirty, unkempt hair. "What's the matter, Petey? Don't you want me? I thought you wanted to have your way with me?" Clara leaned in close, her eyes raging with supernatural power. He tried to run, but he was held in a ironclad grip and could not move. "No?" She pouted sarcastically. "Well then, I guess I'll just have to have my way with you!" She yanked his hair back, exposing his neck as she plunged her fangs directly into his artery. The sailor's scream echoed down the long alleyway but for a moment, before going eerily quiet.
A scream split the night, shattering the peaceful ambiance. "Clara." William was sure she was in danger, and shuffled down the street faster, keeping himself steady with one hand pressed to the wall. She had been gone for far too long, so he had set out after her. He passed an alleyway, but caught the glimpse of bright white from the corner of his eye. Clara's dress! He'd know that dress anywhere. "Clara, Clara are you alright!" William called out as he shuffled into the alleyway. Surprised, the young maid turned to face William, her appearance causing him to recoil. Bright red eyes, alight with an unnatural fire turned to regard him. Her entire mouth and neck were doused in bright crimson blood, as it poured down into her ... exposed cleavage. William froze. She was half-naked. Even though every fibre of his being was screaming at him to run, the sight of Clara, partially undressed, froze him in his tracks. "Will, I thought I told you to stay at the bar." His eyes were finally able to move upwards, and found himself once again staring into the face of the girl he was in love with. Her blue eyes streaked with concern. "I ... I was worried. You were gone for so long, if anything happened to you. If that man had DONE anything to you I ..." Will trailed off again, as he noticed the slumped body directly behind Clara, blood pouring freely from an open gash in his neck. He was not moving. "I told you I could take care of myself...." She said timidly. "I never wanted you to see me like...this." She motioned to all the blood on her person, but Will was immediately drawn back to her chest. Coughing loudly, he drew off his coat and placed it around her shoulders, both for her sake and his own. "We need to get you cleaned up, and back to the bar. People will notice." Clara's eyes searched his own, surprise evident on her face. "You're not scared of me?" She asked, her voice almost pleading. "Terrified, actually.'re still Clara. And I'm going to do everything I can to help you because of how I felt." She looked down, sad because she realized he had used the word felt....past tense. This had happened before, and she knew that he would never look at her the way he used to, with the boyish innocence of puppy love. "It's alright William. I understand. Know that you were always one of my favorites, alright?" She cupped his chin and made him look her in the eyes. "Clara I - " Something wasn't right. Her eyes were shifting to a shade of violet, and her words began to echo through his mind. Everything was going hazy. "Its okay to let go, William. Just forget, and sleep. I want you to be as innocent as before. Just like before..."
William awoke with a start. He was in his bed, sun pouring through the open window. Ow, he thought, hand moving to his head. The last thing he remembered was standing up to that Sailor and ... "Oh no." He must have been knocked out cold trying to defend Clara. CLARA! She had seen him get punched in the face, and immediately crumple. Will groaned and threw himself back into his bed. What a fool he had been. How could he have done something so stupid. That arrogant oaf, he'd get his due justice one day. Something fluttered on that thought. There was something just on the edge of his memory, like a fleeting dream he just couldn't catch. A knock on the door interrupted his thoughts, pushing away all concerns on the matter, as the serving girl came in with breakfast.
"Good morning Mr. Satchel. There was a note left for you at the front desk when you were brought in last night." William perked up, and reached for the folded envelope. Opening it, there was very neat and skillfully written handwriting about half a page long. Who was sending him mail? His eyes were drawn to the large, bold signature at the bottom of the page. It was signed, "Clara Mortier". His heart skipped a beat. Rushing back to the start of the letter, he took in every word and syllable.
To my dearest Will.
Thank you for rushing to my aid last night, your gentlemanly intervention brought a smile to my face. Though it looks like you'll have a serious bruise come morning's light, stop by the tavern so I can take a look at it for you. There will be a fresh pint waiting for you at your usual table.
Always, Dearest
Clara Mortier
His grin went from ear to ear. She wasn't ashamed or embarrassed of him. She was happy. And she wanted to see him. "Mellie, I'm skipping breakfast!" He yelled, grabbing his coat and rushing for the door. Today was going to be a good day.

2021.11.30 18:46 MHAPerson Venting big time lol

I am a shitty person. I know this because I keep on traumadumping my friends and I don't even know how to build a support system with them anyways. Whenever somebody asks me if I am OK, I am fucking scared. I am scared, if I tell them the truth, I am going to be made fun of told my issues are irrelevant to other people's issues. I don't think I can build a support system with my friends, that is too risky, I don't know how to to describe it. If I tell everyone else my issues it feels like they'll hate me. That's why I am here, at least if people on here tell me they hate me that my issues arent real, we are both behind a screen.
When I was younger, I always needed more support at school. My dad used to get really upset if I didn't get an idea or concept - he himself knows a lot but never tried in school so didn't get grades, he kinda projects this on me and my siblings. Eventually I got accommodations at school but this just isolated me at school, it felt like a punishment. Suddenly, one day I found myself getting top grades and in many people's words 'smart'. Note, I am emotional please do not judge my grammar skills at the moment. Then people starting treating me different, my parents constantly praised me, I was told to go to uni etc., and I wasn't isolated at school anymore. I feel like any bad grade now, will kill me, ruin my life. I mean I am still at the top of most my classes but I overwork myself to periods where if I look at a book I panic and I just don't care. The only thing I care about when it comes to school is if I leave top set. I remember a few months ago, I took time off school due to sickness, I felt like an idiot then my dad called me downstairs and then called me dumb fuck and when I started to cry he fake hugged me and yelled 'Is this what you want? Do you think you deserve this?'
My parents tell me my insomnia is my fault. They believe I don't have insomnia and that I if I just close my eyes I will be able to sleep, they think I need to try more. I'm 15 and my insomnia started when I was 4-5, over a decade ago. Therefore, thousands of sleepless nights - I have tried fucking everything other than going to a fucking doctor becuase my parents won't let me becuase according to fucking them I just need to try harder. Then when I struggle to wake up in the morning because I went to sleep 5 minutes ago or I accidentally fall asleep during the day, I get lectured or worse yelled at.
I hate my body, The funny thing is I didn't hate my body for a while until other people commented on it. I hate the way I run because my dad mentioned it. I hate th way my eczema looks because I boy at school commented on it.
I am getting more emotional, I am going to post this anyways because I need to talk to something about my life.

2021.11.30 18:46 BitchyBird Previous employer is claiming voluntary termination when I was actually fired.

I honestly have no clue why they’re doing this, but if I had to guess it’s so that I can’t claim unemployment. I’m only aware of this because I request some info for my insurance company and they sent me my termination record (which isn’t what I needed lol). Luckily I’ve been hired on at a new job and don’t need to claim unemployment, but it still irks me that they did that.

2021.11.30 18:46 economicsdesign Musk, Market and Money??

We provide over 100+ FREE crypto articles on our SubStack! :D (Link on our profile). This is not financial advice.

TLDR:We have seen a lot of KOLs memes about cryptocurrencies and how that has affected the price. Especially with Elon Musk, one of the most famous people on the planet has also had coin meme actions like talking about Dogecoin and Bitcoin. His Tweets have greatly influenced the price of the above cryptocurrencies and the market as a whole. We are not talking about good or bad here, but for the main market, but something like this can be a good signal for people to know more about crypto space. But on the contrary, it also brings risks when people consider the coin meme as an action to invest in. We need to be careful, have our own analysis to be wise in a market like this.
Introduction Elon Musk has always evoked public interest (as billionaire genius types tend to do). The ongoing story this year, for better or worse, has been in the crypto space, where people have taken their cues from his views.Earlier this year Tesla caused waves when they published their balance sheet and announced to the world that they had 1.5 billion dollars worth of Bitcoin (BTC) listed as an asset. More recently, Musk's comments have prompted crypto sales that have seen the price of Bitcoin tumble from above $60,000 into the $30,000-$40,000 range. Overall, the collective crypto market cap fell by just over a trillion dollars over May.
Musk and Market

So why does Elon seem to have this power to influence the world of crypto?
First, let's talk about money in all its forms: fiat and crypto. Arguably, money is a type of social power storage, like a battery. We use it to temporarily store our power to engage others (on our projects and for our whims), and when we pay for a good or a service, we draw on that power. In a similar vein to electricity, it is a consumable resource and is transferred as it is used. After that, the question is which money (or battery) to use? History shows that an implicit contract exists between society and the choice of money system: At various points in world history, including Weimar, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe, nation state-backed fiat systems have broken down because economic agents broke this contract.Elon Musk, in this context, has a good amount of stored social power (money). This social power he harnesses can move markets, as we see below.
Market and Money This points to monetary systems as a type of database that accounts for social power, but only if we agree to use that database. In this vein, a token system is a medium for value storage (and possibly utility storage) for a network of users that choose to adopt that system using a social contract. If the database is corrupt, why would you use it?Less dramatic than the collapse of a national currency is the assignment of social power to crypto assets. Over a decade, a social contract has developed between crypto and a user network, along with bridges between crypto tokens and fiat tokens as valid stores of value. Remember the guy who paid 10,000BTC for two pizzas in 2010? That was the start of a social contract that turned BTC into a form of social power storage. The beauty of crypto is that we are now moving from a type of general-purpose money backed by states to a system of fit-for-purpose tokens that do weird and wonderful things. However, the network effects on cryptocurrencies are more pronounced and subject to social whimsy.
Musk and Money Elon’s whims can either endorse the implicit contract between BTC and other forms of storing social power (Dogecoin) or they can repudiate this contract. Earlier this year, the decision to add BTC to the balance sheets of Tesla acted as an endorsement of value. And so, on cue, people bought more BTC.Now Elon is tweeting the other way, and Tesla has decided not to accept BTC as a form of payment for its vehicles. The good news is that while toddlers stumble more than adults, eventually, we all learn to walk.
Bitcoin, the new money The difference between crypto and fiat is simple. We are privatising money. Thus, the risk to governments everywhere is that society decouples (at least partially) from the default, nation-state fiat store of value because there are valid alternatives. Is it good or bad? You decide.

2021.11.30 18:45 Tristan_Gabranth Regarding The, "Luke, I am your father," Trope...

The scene is so iconic, I'm not quite sure it can be recaptured in a different narrative, without everyone in the fantasy and scifi fandom, crying foul.
In my story, I have something close to this, in terms of familial connections. However, it appears the reveal I'd intended will likely have to wait for a subsequent entry in the intended series. I've planted some seeds here and there, but they were all with the intention of having that arc play out in the current story, of which I'm nearing my word count limit. That being 120k out of 150k, which according to Sanderson, is the limit for emerging fantasy writers.
That said, there's a character in my story, let's call him A, who takes a job with character B who knows the truth about character C's parentage. However, I'm uncertain if B would inform A of it, having assumed A would already know.
A is later antagonizing C, and I've considered A making a passing comment about C's parentage, of which C won't understand, and of which will be subsequently interrupted by character D, who wants A to stop antagonizing C.
Now, D is their superior, so I'm considering a scene in which A questions D about it, because D might know more than they're letting on. The only thing is that this potentially exposes the reader to the truth (pending how it's written), while C remains in the dark.
If I go this route, the reveal might be less impactful come the sequel. But, if the sequel never sees the light of day for whatever reason (hopefully not the case), than the reader will never know the truth.
